چکیده

We tabulated ßowering plant species visited by 151 species of parasitic Hymenoptera. These data were extracted from records of C. Robertson who collected .15,000 insect visitors of ßowering plants in central Illinois during a 33-yr period. Species diversity of parasitoids was highest on plant species of the Apiaceae and Asteraceae. The most abundant parasitoids were 2 tiphiid and a scoliid species. Parasitoid species in6dominant families (Ichneumonidae,Braconidae,Chrysididae, Tiphiidae, Pteromalidae, and Eucoilidae) showed similar preferences for 10 plant species. Most parasitoid species visited a limited rangeof host plants, whichmayhave implications for conservation biological control and conservation biology.

The Role of Host-plant Species in the Differentiation of Sympatric Populations of Hymenopteran Parasitoids

Title of Document: THE ROLE OF HOST-PLANT SPECIES IN THE DIFFERENTIATION OF SYMPATRIC POPULATIONS OF HYMENOPTERAN PARASITOIDS. Raul F. Medina, PhD, 2005 Directed By: Professor, Pedro Barbosa, Department of Entomology The biology and ecology of insect parasitoids is strongly influenced by the hostplant species on which their herbivorous hosts occur. Hymenopteran parasitoids in particular, presen...

A survey of hymenopteran parasitoids of forest macrolepidoptera in the central Appalachians.

In 1995 and 1996, we conducted a study of the hymenopteran parasitoids of macrolepidopteran larvae in the George Washington National Forest (GWNF), Augusta County, Virginia, and the Monongahela National Forest (MNF), Pocahontas County, West Virginia. Macrolepidopteran larvae were collected from canopy foliage and from under canvas bands placed around tree boles. A total of 115 macrolepidopteran...

Influence of oviposition experience on multiparasitism by Pimpla disparis Vierick and Itoplectis conquisitor Say (Hymenoptera: Ichneumonidae).

We evaluated the potential for competition between the exotic ichneumonid parasitoid Pimpla disparis Vierick and the native ichneumonid Itoplectis conquisitor Say, in the form of multiparasitism and destructive host feeding, by examining how previous oviposition experience influenced host selection. Both species commonly attack the host species, bagworm, Thyridopteryx ephemeraeformis (Haworth) ...

Seasonal and regional presence of hymenopteran parasitoids of Drosophila in Switzerland and their ability to parasitize the invasive Drosophila suzukii

Since its introduction into Europe the invasive Drosophila suzukii has established and spread widely, thereby entering habitats populated by native Drosophila species and their natural enemies. The highly prolific D. suzukii will likely interact with these species as a competitor, host or prey. To investigate potential interactions of D. suzukii with parasitoids, a field survey was conducted ac...

Interactive-web of Factors Governing Effective Natural Enemy Foraging Behavior: Overview of Food Resources as a Critical Component

Effective biological control of pests is determined by the abundance, retention and searching efficacy of natural enemies. To assure their reproductive fitness, natural enemies such as predators and parasitoids must effectively balance competing resource needs such as an adequate frequency of encounter with prey and hosts for reproduction, requirements of food other than prey and hosts, and oth...
